Frequently Asked Questions
  • What is an Intake?
    • An Intake is a short process to assess the family's situation so we can complete referrals to help the family locate resources that will help them solve their current crisis.
  • What is the Poverty Simulation & who might participate?
    • The Community Action Poverty Simulation (CAPS) is a unique tool that community action agencies are able to use to educate everyone, from policy makers to local community leaders. The tool is to promote a greater understanding of poverty and the stress of day to day life with the shortage of money; it enables participants to view poverty from different angles in experimental setting. Participants role-play these lives of low income families. Anyone in the community can participate, from local agencies to community leaders, volunteers, clergy and government officials.
  • What is the Family Health and Education Fair and how do I sign up for it?
    • The Back to School Program consists of many different organizations in the community with services for low income families. Children registered for the program receive free new school supplies, including backpacks, paper, folders, glue, pens and pencils. In addition, health screenings including vision, hearing and dental are completed on the children. You need to register with our agency by coming into the office from 8:30am to 3:00pm and provide proof of social security numbers for the Head of Household and all children registering for the program. Also, you must meet income guidelines.
  • Do you have information on the Medicare drug coverage?
    • Community Action has brochures and information on the Medicare D Coverage. We can also direct you to Mid East on Aging in your local area that will have additional information. You may contact Medicare at 1-800-MEDICARE or visit www.medicare.gov
  • I was told that I could come to your agency for assistance with food. Is that true?
    • Yes. You would need to bring Social Security Cards for everyone in the household to our agency. We would do an intake and assessment for you. Then we would refer you to the Division of Family Services for Food Stamps. We would also refer you to local food pantries in your area.
