We're thrilled to share the exciting news about the Greenheart Community Program (GCP) brought to you by Jefferson Franklin Community Action Corporation (JFCAC).
The Greenheart Community Program seeks to transform what was once a blighted property, linked to illicit activities, into a vibrant and inclusive space for education, community engagement, and sustainable agriculture. By repurposing this land, we aim not only to enhance the aesthetic appeal of our neighborhood but also to provide positive outlets for all residents. This initiative carries immense significance for our community. Through the graciousness of the U.S. Marshals Service and their Operation Goodwill program, JFCAC was granted a two-acre parcel of land on Redbird Lane. This partnership signifies a milestone, showcasing the impact of collaboration between government entities and nonprofit organizations in revitalizing our community spaces. Our project unfolds in three phases, with the current focus on phase one. This stage involves restoring the property to align with the surrounding neighborhood's aesthetic. This includes essential tasks such as clearing the tree line to secure the property with fencing and surveillance, removing debris, and establishing the initial outdoor garden plot. Phase two will consist of the classroom development. Our vision includes restoring the current home to serve as an indoor classroom with restrooms and kitchen equipment, an outdoor classroom space. Completing our initial vision with phase three with installing a greenhouse to further support our growing and educational efforts. Redbird Lane will also provide the opportunities to be flexible with the agriculture needs of community partners, allowing for innovative gardening examples to be curated for educational purposes. At the heart of the Greenheart Community Program's success lies our commitment to community involvement. We plan to engage community partners and volunteers in various aspects of the project, from planning and planting to harvesting and sharing the garden's bounty with the community. Additionally, by employing dedicated garden staff, we ensure the program's sustainability and effectiveness in the long term. At JFCAC, we are driven by the mission of "Putting the Unity in Community," implementing initiatives that empower residents and enhance our collective well-being. We are genuinely enthusiastic about the potential of this project to make a lasting impact on our community, and we extend an invitation for you to join us on this journey. Your contribution, regardless of its size, will be instrumental in realizing our shared vision of a healthier, more vibrant neighborhood. |
