Sunrise R-IX Community Trust Project
In August of 2021, Jefferson Franklin Community Action Corporation implemented a Community Trust Process for residents within the boundaries of the Sunrise School District. By providing up to $15,000 in funding and using this process, JFCAC sought to empower community residents at the local level to come together and share their ideas for the betterment of the community
After a series of five Community Trust Meetings, twelve community members attended the final project selection meeting on August 23, 2022, where the proposed projects included a Pavilion/Outdoor
Classroom to be built on school grounds, a Blacktop Walking Trail on school grounds or a Pickle Ball Court. When balloting was completed, the Pavilion/Outdoor Classroom project was selected followed by the Pickle Ball Court and Walking Trail.
Five Trustees then began the process of planning for the project by contacting construction companies for bids. In November of 2022 bids were received and Trustees had to reduce the size of the Pavilion due to original bids exceeding their budget. New bidding identified a bid from Boyer Construction that fell within their budget, after the school agreed to contribute some funding as well.
This pavilion will be used by Sunrise residents for community gatherings such as birthday parties, family reunions, etc. as well as Sunrise school students and teachers for an outdoor classroom. This completely achieves the project Theme of a “Connected Community” selected by community residents in the early planning stages of this project and JFCAC congratulates the trustees and community residents on their diligence to see this project through to completion. We hope your school and Community enjoy it for years to come. Sunrise residents may go to Sunrise School Outdoor Spaces to complete a Facility Use Agreement to reserve the Pavilion or other outdoor spaces at the school.
