The Healthy Homes Program uses extremely sensitive equipment to identify items such as LEAD paint, RADON Gas, and Mold Like Substances. Our inspectors, being highly trained, use the knowledge gathered from their test equipment and visual inspection to develop a program of remedy for each hazard identified in the home. The remedy may be as much as adding a Radon Mitigation System to the home, for the removal of Radon gas and the reduction in the likelihood of cancer forming in the resident. The remedy may be as simple as making a referral to another program in our offerings, such as HeRO.
Families who may be affected by:
The program will strive to increase the number of safe housing units serving low-and very low-income families, increase the awareness and understanding of environmental health hazards prevention, and increase the number of persons qualified to maintain healthy homes. Healthy Homes is available to homeowners and renters, with their landlords permission.

HeRO, Home Repair Opportunity Program
HeRO, the Home Repair Opportunity Program, can do things the other department programs can’t. HHP, WX or UA may have made a referral due to a roof leaking, or broken windows that couldn’t be dealt with by WX. HeRO can, with qualified homes, go in and perform large scale repair and replacement of home systems. Yes, HeRO can replace a roof, or install new windows, make foundation repair, and even install siding, but HeRO, unlike all of our other programs, requires a lien be placed on the property.
