How do I get my child enrolled in head start?

if i complete an application, does that mean my child will get into the head start program right away?
Children must meet age and income guidelines to be accepted into the program when openings are available. 
How old does my child need to be in order to enroll in the program?
Early Head Start serves children from birth to three years of age, as well as pregnant women. 

Head Start serves children from 3 to 5 years of age. Children must turn 3 before July 31st of the program year. Children who are age eligible for Kindergarten are NOT eligible for Head Start. 
what do i need to apply for the program?
  • Proof of Income
  • Child's Birth Certificate or Child's Medicaid/Insurance number
Is there a fee for head start / early head start?
No, all Head Start/Early Head Start services are of no charge to participating children and families. 
Do you serve children with disabilities?
Yes, 10% of our enrollment is reserved for children with disabilities. 
what curriculum does head start / early head start use?
Our classroom sessions utilize the High Scope curriculum. This curriculum is research based, validated, and demonstrates proven effectiveness for child outcomes and school readiness. We also integrate the Open Mind model to enhance our children's social-emotional learning.

Our Home Based & Early Head Start programs use Parents as Teachers Curriculum. This comprehensive curriculum addresses may issues of child health and development such as pregnancy, parenting, and individual family needs. Topics related to mental health, health safety, early child care and education, typical child development, self-esteem and family empowerment are also included. ​
Can I help?
Yes, family members are always welcome! Family members are the most common volunteer, working with children on special projects, assisting at meal time and on the playground. Volunteers from colleges, local community organizations, firefighters, police, and grandparents are also encouraged to volunteer and may coordinate special activities and events into the centers for children and families. Please contact a staff member, if you are interested in volunteering for the program. 
What is the Policy council?
Members of Policy Council include past and present parents of enrolled children as well as community representatives. Their role is to be involved in the program planning and decision making of the Head Start program.
